Youth Talk Appoints New Chief Executive

Local charity Youth Talk which provides a confidential counselling service for young people in St Albans aged 13-25 has appointed David Barker as its new Chief Executive. The local charity was founded in 1997 by a local GP who realised that there was a significant need for a safe place where young people in St Albans could go for counselling and support.

David will take up the post at end of March taking over from previous CEO Trevor Fromant who left the charity in December after leading the charity for the last four years.

Dr Roger Gibbs, Chair of Youth Talk said “We are delighted to have attracted someone of the calibre of David to the charity. David has extensive experience in leading charities of all sizes and combined with his consultancy experience and his role as a volunteer for Scouting in St Albans, is very well placed to lead the charity on the next stage of its development”

David will work part time for the charity whilst combining his new role with his consultancy business, Thrive Consulting which supports charities across the UK helping them to develop and grow. Before setting up his own business David was Chief Executive of Crohn’s and Colitis UK where he led the organisation through a significant period of modernisation, doubling the size and income of the charity. He is currently a Trustee and volunteer leader for Scouting in St Albans and also produced the annual Scout and Guide Gang Show at the Alban Arena for 10 years.

David said “I am tremendously excited about joining Youth Talk. The pressures and challenges on young people today have never been greater and Youth Talk is providing such vital services across the District”. I am looking forward to working with the Trustees, the staff and the amazing team of supporters, fundraisers and volunteers who are the lifeblood of the charity”.
