Find out why he joined the Youth Talk team.
We’re excited to announce that on 1st July, Youth Talk welcomed Ben Nuga to our team as our new Marketing Assistant. Ben brings a unique blend of passion, creativity, and personal experience to the role, making him a perfect fit for our mission.
When asked what inspired him to join a charity like Youth Talk, Ben shared:
“It felt like lots of different paths crossed at the same time. I’ve always been interested in the mental health sector in various capacities, especially since I struggled myself when I was younger. I actually trained to be a mental health care assistant while at university. The opportunity to work with a charity based in the town where I went to school, and to help people, is exciting for me. It’s a chance to help Youth Talk grow its profile, and that means a lot to me.”
At just 25 years old, Ben is still within the 13-25 age range that Youth Talk serves. With friends who have younger siblings in the same age group, Ben understands firsthand the importance of the work we do. The fact that many of his peers were unaware of Youth Talk until recently made this opportunity even more meaningful for him.
Ben’s background is as impressive as it is diverse. Over the past few years, he has published two books, written a play, launched a magazine celebrating diverse talents, hosted a podcast, and produced music. His experience in writing and promoting creative work, combined with his life experience and empathy, will be invaluable as he steps into his new role.
Ben on his role at Youth Talk
“My role is largely social media-oriented, including helping with the newsletter. Once I settle in, I’m looking forward to figuring out how I can use my experience and perspective to help spread the word about Youth Talk. Although Youth Talk has been around for 27 years, there are still so many people who don’t know about the incredible work the charity does.”
Beyond his social media responsibilities, Ben is eager to make a broader impact:
“I hope to have an active impact where I can, beyond just my social media duties. School was a source of many of my own mental health challenges growing up, so I’m passionate about bringing Youth Talk’s message to life in ways that resonate with others who might be going through similar struggles.”
Ben’s dream superpower?
And if Ben could have one superpower? It would be teleportation! He explains:
“Teleportation would be super useful. Reading people’s minds isn’t always the best thing. Being on the spectrum means I can sometimes pick up on what people are thinking through small body movements, which is both a blessing and a curse. It’s why teleportation appeals to me—being able to get where I need to be without the baggage!”
We’re thrilled to have Ben on board and can’t wait to see the creativity and energy he brings to Youth Talk in the coming months.
