A recently retired secondary Head teacher, Martin Brown was well aware of the challenges faced by young people and suggested hosting a virtual tour for us.
As a local resident, Martin approached Youth Talk as he wanted to raise some vital funds to help support our local counselling service.
At the moment, Martin is a trainee London tour guide. Due to the pandemic, his course was on hold. So, he decided to keep his practice going and organise a “Virtual Tour” in aid of Youth Talk.
The fundraiser
“A Tale of Two Cities involved fun and shocking tales of St Albans and its links to London.” It featured love stories and gruesome deaths, pubs and music!
Over 60 people joined Martin on an early Sunday evening in Lockdown and the event raised a whopping £1,400!
Community Fundraiser, Rachel Simkin shared, “we were so excited when Martin approached Youth Talk with his excellent fundraising idea. The ongoing coronavirus pandemic has taken a toll on us all and Martin’s virtual Tour was an interesting, informative and wonderfully-entertaining event to lighten people’s Sunday evenings. Best of all, it will help make a real difference to the lives of young people across the St Albans District.”
The donations raised will help to fund 28 one to one counselling sessions to a local young person during a time of real need.
The feedback from those who attended and donated in support of the event was fantastic:
“Many thanks Martin. Interesting, informative, educational and enjoyable – well researched and presented”
“Thanks Martin – great way to spend an early Sunday evening in Lockdown. Learnt so much. Hopefully at some time in the future we will be able to do it in person.”
Martin has kindly offered to repeat the virtual tour in aid of Youth Talk again later in the year. In the meantime, to find out more about his tours please visit: LondonTownWithMrBrown
