As part of our five year strategy, Youth Talk committed to investing in and developing a volunteer programme. We know our community want to get involved and support our vulnerable young people through a volunteer-led initiative. The 6 Point Promise is an endorsement of our volunteer management and represents an important step in Youth Talk’s journey for growth.

Volunteers share their time, skills, knowledge and enthusiasm with us in various different ways. They also help keep Youth Talk relevant to the St Albans City and District community by championing our work and bringing a range of personalities, backgrounds and experience into our charity.
Youth Talk places great value on the involvement of volunteers in its work including, but not exclusive to administrative, research and design tasks to helping at or organising events and fundraising, or being a member of our Youth Panel and Board of Trustees.
It is really important for us to be recognised as an organisation which takes volunteer management seriously. We are absolutely delighted to announce that after a year of reviewing our policies and thinking through the practicalities of involving volunteers in our work – how they are contacted, supported and encouraged – we have now secured an accreditation for our approach to managing volunteers.
The 6 Point Promise
The Communities 1st ‘Valuing Volunteer Management – 6 Point Promise’ is a Hertfordshire-wide scheme aiming to raise awareness of the need for good practice in volunteer management. Organisations that involve volunteers are encouraged to self-assess their current policies, practices and procedures and then volunteers and staff are interviewed to ensure procedures are followed.
We are absolutely delighted to now join an elite cohort of organisations who exemplify excellent volunteer management in our county. Youth Talk are now officially listed on the Communities 1st website as good organisations with which to volunteer.
It was such a privilege to hear from both staff and volunteers not just about the commitments you make to ensuring good volunteer management but also about the incredible work your staff and volunteers carry out every day.

David Barker, Youth Talk CEO shares
“to receive this external endorsement is fantastic. Volunteers generously give their time, energy and skills and are a fundamental part of our local charity. One of our key organisational values is that we are ‘stronger together’. Volunteering is a brilliant way to meet new people, learn new things and give back. Our community is at the heart of Youth Talk and we look forward to welcoming more volunteers in years yet to come to help us achieve our growth ambitions.”
