Platinum Point brave the heat, smash PB’s and raise vital funds for Youth Talk
Last Sunday, local runners and fitness fanatics took part in Active Training World’s St Albans Summer 10k. Youth Talk volunteers supported the running of ATW’s event by manning the registration and baggage desks!
In an already challenging run, participants had to push on in highs of 33°C! Luckily, our volunteers were also primed to supply water where necessary and hand out medals to finishers.
Let’s have a look at how one team running and raising money for Youth Talk got on during the heatwave.
Three members of a local business networking group ran 10k for Youth Talk on the 14th of August. Pictured left to right are Mark Fellows, Caroline Deutsch and David Buckley – together they make up the Platinum Point Team!
Platinum Point chose to fundraise for Youth Talk in response to the growing mental health crisis among our local young people. With unprecedented demand for our counselling service, such efforts have never been more welcome. They have created a JustGiving fundraiser where you can sponsor their phenomenal success!
Mark described the experience as
but despite stifling temperatures, the team pushed on for a great cause and one team member had particularly big wins!
David had been completing couch to 5k with his 16 year old son. Having only run 7k before, he achieved a personal best upon completing the 10k run! He, along with many other runners, got to ring ‘The Bell of Glory’ in recognition of their personal triumph.
A big congratulation to ATW for organising such an amazing event. Thank you, Platinum Point, for pushing yourselves and choosing to raise money for Youth Talk!
Finally, well done to all the runners who braved the heatwave and participated in the St Albans 10k run. We hope you enjoyed the super soaker cool-down upon crossing the finish line as much as our fundraiser Rachel did!
“Having a daughter and nephews and nieces in their early 20’s, raising money for Youth Talk really resonates for me. I know how hard it is for young people to get access to free counselling and the more we can share how and where they can do this, the better. Running around the course, and passing people out walking, it was great to hear them shout out for Youth Talk and to help raise awareness. We are just happy to be able to help local young people to receive professional support and grateful for all Youth Talk is doing”
