Volunteer
Volunteering with us is an incredible way of supporting young people’s mental health.
It’s proven to be good for you too!
If you’ve a few hours spare and have a skill to share, volunteering is a fantastic way to meet new people, learn something new, develop your skills and make a real difference.
Ways you can help:
Events
- Join us and represent Youth Talk at an organised event. A fun way to spend your time, meet new people and get involved with your community. Youth Talk often receive a donation for each volunteer we provide and we love having a team of Youth Talk t-shirts all out together as part of a local event. For more information click here.
- PLEASE NOTE WE ARE A LOCAL CHARITY AND MOST OF OUR EVENTS ARE IN AND AROUND ST ALBANS AREA
Fundraising
- If you aren’t free to help at an organised event then help us by organising one of your own – this could be a cake sale, coffee morning, individual or group challenge – or whatever takes your fancy. For more information click here.
Ambassadors
- We need people who can collect cheques / attend cheque presentations, take collection cans and kit to/from events and/or supporters and also people to deliver leaflets for key campaigns. Sometimes we also need people to represent us at local community events e.g. concerts where Youth Talk are invited as a nominated charity or partner.
Research
- From time to time we need people to do pieces of research to check all our statistics / rates / facts are up to date and consistent across our and partner sites.
Social Media
- We are interested in hearing from people who can help with captioning, tagging, resizing images and other related tasks
Copy Writing
- We need people who can write copy for local magazines / adverts / small campaigns
If you are interested in helping in any of these ways then please click the button below to complete our short form and we’ll be in touch.
Why not join our Youth Panel?
- If you are between 13 and 25 years old and interested in joining our Youth Panel then please email info@youthtalk.org.uk for more information.
Due to the nature of our work and the importance of safeguarding our young people, we do not allow volunteers to work directly with service-users.
This also means that we are unable to support trainee/volunteer counsellors or offer work placements. We only employ counsellors who are fully qualified and BACP accredited.
OUR VOLUNTEERS
Our Volunteer Co-ordinator
Hear from our volunteer co-ordinator, Julia about what she likes about her role.
“I enjoy the engagement with other members of Youth Talk and the support that they provide. I feel that the work that they do supporting young people by providing free, confidential counselling is invaluable. This gives me a sense of purpose to raise money for them.“
“Raising funds for a charity that makes every penny count feels worthwhile. Giving back to my local community is also a strong driver“
‘As a parent with two teenage sons at local schools, I’m also acutely aware of the need for this type of mental health support for young people who often cannot access support elsewhere.”
Our Youth Panel
Hear from our Youth Panel about why they wanted to get involved.
“Over the past few years, I have witnessed lots of my friends suffering with their mental health and have noticed how much their struggles have directly impacted others around them, including myself. I feel that the panel members need to understand how much suffering with mental health can impact lives.”
“I wanted to be a part of the growth of a community that cares for people like me and many others. I felt like I would be able to contribute the ideas of my peers or people going through similar things to me, so that they can get the help they need.”
“I wanted to join the youth panel as I know a lot of people that would benefit significantly from a service like this, and I am passionate about helping them and many others.”

“Volunteering for charities like Youth Talk is so important in helping those that need guidance in navigating life in the 21st century. As Youth Talk is a local charity you feel as a volunteer you are making a real difference in helping people in the area you live in. What’s more you can see the actual benefit of that help in the number of young people receiving counselling via Youth Talk, which is very rewarding.”
Steve
Our Trustees
Hear from one of our trustees about why they think volunteering is important
“Volunteering helps me as well the beneficiaries of the charity. It provides me with a sense of purpose and it’s rewarding.
I was particularly keen to join Youth Talk because it provides a vital and unique specialist service for young people. It provides counselling to those who self-refer and who can then go on to live happier lives.
Being able to give something back after being involved with young people throughout my career is very satisfying to me. I feel part of a caring community who all want to do their bit to help”.
