Mental Health Awareness Week
9 – 15 May 2022
Loneliness
Make time to talk.
Mental Health Awareness Week is an annual event when there is an opportunity for everyone to focus on achieving good mental health.
Why not fix a cuppa and have a well-deserved catch up with a friend, loved one or colleague.
Organise a coffee morning in support of our local charity, Youth Talk.
Loneliness
Loneliness is affecting more and more of us and had a huge impact on our physical and mental health during the pandemic. Our connection to other people and our local community is fundamental to protecting our mental health.
At Youth Talk we see a huge number of young people who are struggling with anxiety and withdrawing themselves from normal life after the challenges of lockdown.
We are #StrongerTogether and need to work towards reducing loneliness to achieve a mentally healthy society. In St Albans we’ve a fantastic community spirit, our local MP, Daisy Cooper reminds us:
“Loneliness is not always the same as being alone. Many people find that they can be in a crowded places and still feel extremely isolated.
That’s why community is so important in helping prevent loneliness – whether that’s outreach programs, social clubs, or services like Youth Talk’s free, confidential counselling. Loneliness really can kill, so it’s great that here in St Albans so many community initiatives exist to combat it.”
