‘It’s Good to Talk’ – Verulam School raises funds for Youth Talk

As boys, we tend to keep our issues to ourselves because we’re thinking “who wants to hear about my school stress or my issues at home, it just brings down the vibe, it just ruins the mood

Last October, Verulam School chose to support Youth Talk at its annual service of thanksgiving and dedication. The service gives students, staff, and guests an opportunity to reflect and be thankful for Verulam.

In the spirit of the service’s theme – ‘It’s Good to Talk’ – Head boy, Owen, and Head Girl, Myli, shared an inspiring charity appeal. They discussed some of the key factors that can affect your mental health during school and highlighted the importance of asking your friends: “Are you okay?” or “Are you having a bad day?”. Myli and Owen urged listeners:

If you think your friends may need more help than you can give, you can tell them to contact Youth Talk and they can speak to professionals who have helped others in their position feeling the same things they are feeling

Students sold Youth Talk pin badges in aid of Youth Talk and there was a collection during the service. The students at Verulam School raised a massive £2,000! Pictured left are Myli, Huw, Miss Richardson, Rachel Simkin and Owen during the cheque presentation. We cannot thank them enough for raising both awareness and vital funds for our service.

We are always looking for schools and youth groups who want to fundraise in support of Youth Talk.

Can you help us now?  Why not fundraise for us: organise an event with your school, friends, or family to raise awareness and vital funds. Together we can ensure that the young people of St Albans feel heard. #WeAreListening
