Youth Talk was blessed to be one of the benefitting charities of the 2021 Yarnbombers Campaign. The best time of the year where everyone is in the Christmas spirit, including St. Albans post boxes!
There are various festive scenes placed around different post boxes in the St. Albans area, 82 to be exact. Each topper is unique and made with love by an army of knitters and crochet volunteers.
How do the donations work?
Last year there were 50 post box toppers and during Christmas 2021, there have been a whopping 82 post-box toppers.
Each topper is kindly sponsored by a local business or donor. Residents and visitors can enjoy the trail by visiting www.StAlbansPostBoxes.org.uk. You can also download the ‘EYES on St Albans’ App kindly sponsored by Jez Levy. Every topper has a QR code which can be scanned by the public and used to make a donation which goes to us, Youth Talk and ADD-Vance.
WHO CREATED THEM?
The team at DigitalJen coordinated the making and assembly of the toppers. So much hard work has been put in by over 30 knitters! Each topper takes around 24 hours to make. It is a real community effort all in the name of charity. These fantastic volunteers donate their time and materials where they work together to create the adorable masterpieces placed on the post boxes. Unfortunately some of the toppers face vandalism or are stolen, but that does not dampen the spirit of community, when one goes done another is put back up. The hard work put into these toppers is brilliant – and we at Youth Talk appreciate them so much.
How will the donations help Youth Talk?
Just £50 will provide a young person with a safe and confidential counselling session. We are in a time where young people need us now more than ever. The money raised will aid us in providing them with the help they deserve.
We have a vital vision and mission and are guided by our values in all that we do. The sponsorship and donations raised so far will help us to provide 200 one-to-one counselling sessions. Our waiting list this Christmas time is the longest it’s ever been. So far, over £20,000 has been raised for Youth Talk and ADD-vance.
